Opal Ludecke Mobley went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 5, 2018 at the ripe old age of 99. She was born on October 8, 1918 in Stamford Texas to George and Mary Ludecke. She grew up picking cotton on the family farm with her sister Annie and brothers Bill and J Roy. Opal attended Corinth grade school and Stamford high school graduating in 1936. Following this she received her degree from secretarial school and began working at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio Texas during World War II. In 1948 she met and married Robert N (Tex) Mobley. They had four children: Trish Olson (Gary) Chilcott, Sheila (Gordy) Cottier, Karla (Ron) Edwards, Keith (Sherri) Mobley. She moved from Texas to Washington state and then to Missoula in 1958. She worked at the University of Montana, Missoulian, and Missoula County High School retiring in 1986. At 97 she moved into Grizzly Peak independent living center. She is survived by her 11 grand and 18 great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Missoula Hospice especially, Ama, Linda, Mary and Harvest Home Care. A small family gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate her life.
Opal had an amazing gift of hospitality for everyone and she was full of spunk and sass to the very end. She was the glue of the family, bringing all 49 of them together every year for good food and lots of laughs. Your belly, heart and smile were overflowing when you left her company. We will miss her dearly as we wander the streets of Missoula looking for ribs and potatoes as good as Granny O’s.
