In Loving Memory of Alan L. Williams
It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Alan Lee Williams passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, July 27th, 2024. Alan was born March 17, 1950 in Minot, North Dakota to Waldo and Doris Williams. The family later moved to Montana and settled in Missoula.
Alan attended the University of Montana on a ROTC scholarship and obtained a degree in Forestry. To fulfill his service, Alan served in the US Army where he earned the rank of 1st Lieutenant. His time in the military remained one of his greatest achievements. Upon discharge, Alan then spent his career working for the family business of Missoula Cartage Company.
Alan loved spending time at Flathead Lake, where he created lasting memories with his family. Evenings filled with stories and laughter, spirited boat races with his beloved boat, the Silver Streak, and sipping Black Russians while playing cards were among his favorite pastimes.
He was proud of his daughter, Jackie, especially for her educational success which he had encouraged from a young age. He also enjoyed texting her about the weather, especially when he was enjoying better weather than she was.
Alan loved living the snowbird life and RVing with his wife, Jill. Together, they split their time between their home in Montana and the warmth and friendship of the Old Buzzards in Indio, CA.
An avid golfer, Alan enjoyed many rounds with his friends and family, often recounting specific strokes with a memory as sharp as the day they happened. His time on the golf course brought him immense joy, frustration, and countless stories.
Alan was a lifelong Dodgers fan and fondly recalled the moment he became a fan while sitting on his grandpa's lap as the Dodgers played in a World Series. As a proud grandpa, Alan cherished his grandson, James, and began making him a Dodgers fan as soon as he was born (much to the chagrin of his son-in-law, Dan, who is an ardent Mariners fan.)
Alan is preceded in death by his parents and survived by a daughter, Jackie (Dan); a grandson, James; two brothers, Dennis and Ken (Kathy), a sister, Bonnie Jo (Bob); and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
His great sense of humor and infectious laugh have left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him and he will be deeply missed. His love, laughter, and the memories we made with with him will live on in our hearts forever.
Happy trails to you, Alan, until we meet again...
A small family gathering will be held to spread Alan's ashes at Flathead Lake next summer.
