HALL ~ Allen (Al) Eugene Platt, of Hall, Montana, passed away on May 14, 2024, of natural causes at Providence St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula.
He was born July 13,1949 to the parents of Howard Eugene (Gene) and Florence Lorraine (Lorraine) Platt in Hamilton, Montana. Allen was the oldest of 5 siblings, Geraldine (Gerry) Porter-Mallory, Linda Fristo, Johnny Porter, Barry Platt, and Debbie MacDonald.
He grew up in Missoula, graduating from Hellgate High School in 1968. During this time, he became friends with Edward (Ed) Beers and during this friendship he met the woman he was going to marry, Judy. He informed Ed that he was going to marry his sister someday, and he did. Judy and Al married on October 11, 1969. From that union they had three children, Curtis, Trena, and Lonnie.
As a young lad, he worked delivering groceries to people from Dean’s Market on Toole Avenue in Missoula. After marrying and serving in the military he worked as a mechanic for Western Montana Coop (Cenex). During this time working there they relocated him to Hall, Montana. Cenex decided to close the branch in Hall, and he went into business for himself for a while as a mechanic in Drummond, Montana. He eventually moved on from there to become the custodial engineer for Drummond High School. While working there he was the assistant football coach for many years. Due to a medical condition, he retired from the school. His next passion came from making birdhouses in his old blacksmith shop in Hall.
Al joined the Army on January 8,1970. He served in Vietnam as a diesel mechanic for almost two years, returning on February 1, 1972, discharging from the Army to join the Army National Guard Unit. He served from May 14,1973 to June 2, 1978, as a vehicle mechanic.
Many know Allen as being a kind, caring man with a good sense of humor. He will be forever missed by many, especially his family.
Allen enjoyed many activities that included: mechanic work, stock car racing up Miller Creek, hunting, fishing, photography, wood working, the outdoors, baking, visiting with friends and family and finally building birdhouses.
