Betty Lou VanDeventer

HAMILTON ~ Betty Lou VanDeventer passed away peacefully on Sunday May 26, 2024, at her home in Hamilton Montana with her loving husband by her side. 

She was born March 14, 1946, in Bloomington Indian to Lyle and Hazel Whaley.  On July 7, 1961, she married Mike Russell VanDeventer in Bloomington Indiana.  The couple moved to Montana to answer the calling to pastor Faith Tabernacle Church in Missoula Montana in 1981.   Betty served as a minister in the church as a licensed UPCI minister and leader of the Rocky Mountain district ladies auxiliary.   For many years, Betty dedicated her life to teaching adult Sunday School and played the piano. 

Betty’s dream of motherhood was finally fulfilled with the adoption of her daughter Jessica the day she was born.  That little girl, Jessica, became her pride and joy.  Betty was doubly blessed to become a grandmother with the birth of two grandchildren. 

Betty enjoyed nothing more than utilizing her culinary skills to make wonderful home cooked meals for her family.   In her down time, Betty loved to spend time on her dirt bike exploring the outdoors with her one and only Russell.  In addition to getting out on the trails riding her dirt bike, she was an avid hunter.   As a service to church members and newborns, Betty exhibited her skills crocheting numerous blankets. 

A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she took great loving care of her family, friends and church.   She loved music, flowers, and the mountains. 

Betty is survived by her adoring husband Mike Russell of nearly 63 years of matrimony, daughter Jessica Boswell of Corvallis, grandson Gideon Boswell, and granddaughter Natalya Boswell. 

Betty’s graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at Sunset Memorial Gardens 7405 Mullan Rd, Missoula, Montana.
