Chester LeRoy "Chet" Mowrey

October 7, 1941 — April 3, 2024

MISSOULA ~ Chester “Chet” L. Mowrey, 82, of Missoula, passed away of natural casuses on Wednesday, April 3 2024 at St Patrick Hospital in Missoula, Montana.

Chet was born on October 7 1941, in Pocatello, Idaho, to Kassie and Cora Mowrey.  As a young man he lived with his family on a farm where they grew alfalfa, beets and potatoes.  He was educated in the Pocatello public school system where he excelled as an athlete in football, basketball and baseball and was well known for his athletic capabilities.  On January 20 1959, he married Ann King Mowrey in Blackfoot, Idaho.  The couple spent their lives together living in Idaho, Colorado and Montana where they resided until Chet’s passing.  Chet started his career with Pocatello’s C. Ed Flandro Ford and dedicated the next 33 years of his life to their customers and the Ford Motor Company.  In life, Chet and Ann were the proud parents to four daughters, Debbie (and Gerald) of Missoula, Sherrie of Georgia, Melanie of Fruita, Colorado, and Christy of Billings.  Chet was a lifelong fan (through rain and shine) of the Denver Broncos organization and was never seen without a giant smile when given the opportunity to discuss his team.  A man of few words, there was never a dull moment when his Broncos became the center of conversation, where many lifelong friends were shocked to hear him speak elegantly for hours on end.  Chet’s loves in his life were his wife of 65 years, children, grandchildren Misty (and Robert) of Oklahoma, Kristopher (and Brandy) and Camille (and Tony) of Missoula, Stephanie (and Derick) of Georgia, Kyle (and Taylor) and Danielle of Fruita; and great-grandchildren Chyanna and Chasity of Oklahoma; Aerianna, Chloe, Malachi, Zi, Harper and Beckett of Missoula; Hallie of Georgia; and Maverick and Memphis of Fruita.

Chet is reunited through death with two infant children, his mother, father and three brothers.  He is survived by his wife, Ann, brother Roger, four children, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.  In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that all willing donate to the American Kidney Foundation or the Global Fund for Women, both of which were extremely important to Chet and his family.
