Harlene Louise Fortune, 81, passed away in Olympia, Washington, surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 1, 2018. Harlene was born April 11, 1936, to Harlan and Phyllis Page in Missoula.
She attended Paxson Elementary and Missoula County High School where she met the love of her life, Fred Fortune. They graduated in 1954. Harlene attended the University of Montana and joined the Alpha Phi. Fred and Harlene were married July 23, 1955. They had three children.
Harlene worked at Save On Drug, First Federal Building and Loan and at First State Bank. She was a loving homemaker and volunteered throughout the community. Harlene was Fred’s right hand when they built their dream home in the upper Rattlesnake. She enjoyed ceramics, gardening, traveling and spending precious time with her treasured family and lifelong friends.
Fred and Harlene started Missoula Fireplace and Spa’s. Their store lead the sale of clean burning wood and pellet stoves. Harlene was on the Missoula Air Pollution Board and they successfully operated Missoula Fireplace until their retirement in the late 1990’s.
She is survived by her loving children, Diane (the late Steve Phelps), Dave (Laura) Fortune, Susan Fortune; eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home on Friday, March 9 at 3 p.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, we request that you pay it forward with kindness or a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association.
