John Darrell Wood, 69, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, Oct. 7, 2016, at the Village Retirement Home of natural causes.
He was born on July 24, 1947, to John and Marie Wood in Townsend. He lived the majority of his life in Missoula and worked at the Bonner Mill and the Missoula Parking Commission.
His first marriage to Maryann produced two children – Elizabeth and John. After they divorced, he remarried to Shirley. They had one child, Sheri. Shirley passed away at a young age. John then met Leta and they were married for 25 years up until her passing. John was a stepdad to her three children.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, collecting guns, stamps, coins and precious metals. John had a green thumb, as evidenced by his roses that are still with us today. He was proud of the 1946 Studebaker truck that his dad bought new and John continued to drive it for many years with his best friend Lenny Wuori along for the ride.
John had many lifelong friends, including Jack Reinhard, Lenny Wuori, Jim Schindler, and Mark and Max McVey.
He is survived by his sister Charlene; his three children, as well as numerous grandchildren, stepchildren and other family members.
John was preceded in death by his parents; sister Sheila, and wives Shirley and Leta.
His wishes were for cremation and there will be a graveside memorial service at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, at Sunset Memorial Gardens off of Mullan Road.
