Judith Laureen Smith (Barrette)

MISSOULA ~ Judith L Smith 77 passed at her home on August 23, 2021 in the early morning hours surrounded by her family.

Judy was born August 20, 1944 to Joseph and Laureen Barrette at St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula.
She spent a lot of her childhood in Missoula before moving to Alpena, Michigan graduating from Alpena Catholic Central in 1962.

She was briefly married to Phil Rosiewicz with whom she had two children Linda Lewis in 1964 and Amy Carlson in 1966. They divorced and Judy moved back to her home state of Montana.
Here she met a dashing highway patrolman Ray Smith who swept her off her feet and they were united in marriage on December 15, 1972. With this marriage Ray brought three children Monte Smith, Rick Smith and Lynette Kirschenheiter.

Judy was a home maker, secretary for the Shrine Circus for many years and Ray’s constant support and companion until his death in 1993. She and Ray enjoyed several trips to the west coast which was their special place. Later after Ray’s passing she and her mom made several trips to Michigan to visit family.

Judy is survived by her mother Laureen Graefe, brother Ed Barrette and wife Carolyn their children Scott and Chris Barrette and their families. Daughters Linda (Jim) Lewis, Amy (Tony) Carlson, Lynette (Gene) Kirschenheiter and 2 stepsons Monte (Denise) Smith, Richard Smith. 4 Grandsons Ben, Nick and Nathan Smith, Adam (Kati) Huot and Hailey Huot. 2 great grandchildren Quinn and Seeley Kirschenheiter. Her favorite cousin in crime and shenanigans Patti Hilmer. Many friends that she has held dear over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ray, dad Ernie and grandson Jerid Kirschenheiter.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 am Saturday, August 28, 2021 at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church with Graveside Services after the funeral at Sunset Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to Ray.

Arrangements are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Missoula.
