TUCSON, AZ – June Marie Harris, 87, passed away on July 17, 2016 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Tucson, Arizona.
A memorial service will start at 11am on Saturday, August 20 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow, then a reception at the funeral home. Pastor Bob Schurr will officiate at the funeral service.
June was born June 20, 1929 to Orville and Margaret Wilcox in Missoula. She was educated in Bonner and Anaconda. She married her childhood sweetheart, Ralph “Pinky” Harris, on August 31, 1946.
Her working career was diverse. She enjoyed people and excelled as a waitress, a baker, a drapery seamstress and as a women’s clothing salesperson. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband Pinky’s logging business.
The family ranch was a big part of who she was as well. If the cattle needed to be gathered she would yell “Come Boss!” and they would come running. She also took great pleasure in gardening and canning a variety of vegetables. Her dill pickle recipe was legendary along with her huckleberry and apple pies.
She was a woman with a loving heart and kind soul. Her children and grandchildren were always amazed by the seemingly unlimited supply of funny sayings she would express unexpectedly. In contrast though she was outspoken, had strong opinions and was never shy to express them.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Pinky in 2006 and her parents.
Survivors include her daughter Jean Reid of Tucson, Arizona; her son Steve Harris of Missoula; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
