Linda Carol Miller passed away early Friday morning, June 24, 2016, while recovering from lung
surgery.
Linda was born in Helena, Montana on August 1, 1941, the daughter of George Herbert "Herb"
and Barbara Gamwell Atkins. She spent her childhood in Helena and graduated from Helena
High School in 1959. She had many fond memories of the house on Brekenridge growing up
with her two brothers, Richard and Bruce. Her most cherished memories from childhood were
from times spent with the Atkins family in Gallatin Gateway. Linda, with Rich, Bruce and her
parents, spent summers and weekends on the family ranch there, and Gallatin Gateway
became and remained a most special place for her.
Linda graduated and earned a teaching certificate from Western Montana College in Dillon.
She taught elementary school for more than thirty years, with almost all of those years spent
teaching 3rd grade in Twin Bridges, Montana. Linda was a wonderful teacher with an
extraordinary gift for teaching children, in particular those who struggled with reading. She was
incredibly patient, inordinately kind, and stubbornly persistent with her students. As such, Linda
had a positive impact beyond measure on hundreds of young minds, and the effects of her skill
and care will resonate for generations.
After retirement, Linda moved to Missoula. She delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, took
stained glass classes, grew amazing flowers, and became the most loved little lady in her
neighborhood. Most importantly, Linda became a vital part of the lives of her grandchildren -
Jeremy, Kincaid, McKenna and Braeden. She loved nothing more than spending time with
them, watching and helping them grow into beautiful adults. The grandkids responded in kind,
and treasure every moment they spent with her.
Linda is survived by her brothers, Richard and Bruce Atkins; her children, Brent Miller (Becky)
and Christy Stricker (Greg); and her four grandchildren, Jeremy Miller, Kincaid Stricker,
McKenna Stricker, and Braeden Miller.
Cremation has taken place, and Linda's ashes will be scattered in Gallatin Gateway in
accordance with her wishes. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, JULY 22 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 7405 Mullan Rd. Missoula
If desired, memorials may be sent to the charity of your choice in Linda's name.
